Barrett Hatches
President
As President of Swope Community Builders and Chief Operating Officer of Swope Community Enterprises, Barrett Hatches is responsible for overseeing comprehensive development projects and civic investment totaling more than $500 million.
Prior to his current position, Hatches was president and CEO of Northern Indiana Public Service Company, Northern Indiana Fuel & Light Company and Kokomo Gas & Fuel Company in Merrillville, Ind. Previous experience also includes senior management positions with SEMCO Energy in Port Huron, Michigan and Anchorage, Alaska, where he served as president and CEO of ENSTAR Natural Gas, and with North American Salt Company and Missouri Gas Energy, both in Kansas City.
Hatches earned a Master of Arts in Management from Webster University in St. Louis, Mo. and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Jackson State University in Jackson, Miss. He was named one of Kansas City’s 100 Most Influential African-Americans in 1994.

John Crawford
Vice President, Planning and Development
In his role as Vice President of Planning, John Crawford brings over 25 years of economic development experience to Swope Community Builders. Crawford is responsible for developing and managing redevelopment programs utilizing public/private partnerships. During his tenure, Swope Community Builders has managed the largest CDC-driven redevelopment program in Kansas City, Mo. the public/private, TIF-funded reinvestment program for Kansas City’s Brush Creek Corridor.
A graduate of Worcester State College and Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Crawford has served as President of the Applied Urban Research Institute and as Executive Director for three redevelopment agencies in Kansas City, Mo. Crawford has been selected to present his expertise to numerous groups, including Urban Land Institute and National Council for Urban Economic Development (CUED). He has been an adjunct faculty member at the University of Kansas University, University of Missouri-Kansas City and Park University.

Naimish Patel
Vice President, Finance
Naimish Patel is responsible for overall financial management of Swope Community Builders. Patel oversees all budgeting, planning and business decision support analysis. In addition, Patel provides financial analysis in support of strategic planning for the organization.
Patel’s expertise includes a diversity of experiences including serving as Chief Financial Officer of a highly successful managed care plan in Kansas City. Patel earned his bachelor of Business Administration from the SP University in Nagar, India. He is a graduate of University of Missouri-Kansas City earning a Master of Business Administration degree. He is a Certified Public Accountant. Patel is a member of the Health Care Financial Management association and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
